Link your Facebook Profile to Twitter

by Kyle on May 30, 2012

People are talking about your organization,  are you a part of the conversation? Joining online social networks is your first step! Everyone would like to think that your organization/cause is relevant, but what is relevance? How does Google search work?

A Web page’s PageRank depends on a few factors: (How Things Work)

  • The frequency and location of keywords within the Web page: If the keyword only appears once within the body of a page, it will receive a low score for that keyword.
  • How long the Web page has existed: People create new Web pages every day, and not all of them stick around for long. Google places more value on pages with an established history.
  • The number of other Web pages that link to the page in question: Google looks at how many Web pages link to a particular site to determine its relevance.

For the purposes of this article, we will focus on the third bullet point, web page linking to create relevance. It really is quite a simple concept at heart.  If people are discussing something at mass, it is relevant. Discussion creates relevance.  Ipso Facto, if you are on multiple social network sites saying the same thing, you are creating a conversation.

What To Know About Google Grants

by Kyle on May 23, 2012

Google Grants is a nonprofit giving arm, attached to Google Adwords. To be eligible for the grant, you must be a 501(c)(3) organization. Google Grants is a unique “in-kind” donation program awarding FREE Adwords advertising to the selected organizations.

Results will vary, but a grantee can get up to $10,000 dollars a month worth of advertising on Google.com per month.  Although this does come with a few catches.

  •  Grantees’ accounts are only eligible to advertise on Google.com, not on the content or syndication networks.
  • Your website cannot display any revenue generating ads such as affiliated advertizing links.
  •  If you have bids above $1.00 in your Adwords account, you will be in violation of their policy and your grant will be terminated.
  •  If you are removed from the Google Grants program, your organization will be ineligible from reapplying.

With all of those things in mind, I think that Google Grants is one of the best things that you can apply for. Advertising dollars are on the table, you just need to know how to get to them! Once you have the grants, I would love to help you with the Adwords management.
